Haiku Koo-Koo 6/8/10

Brisk winds blow boldly
Pulling shy, dry leaves from boughs
To dance in the air

Unseen on their pads
Frogs welcome the morning sun
Mist carpets the pond

Crickets chirp brightly
Never fearing the darkness
Of warm summer nights

  1. Watch the modifiers and try to avoid anthropomorphizing ( shy leaves, frogs welcome, crickets . . . never fearing) if you want to write haiku in the classical tradition. Haiku is about what's happening here and now. But write what you want.

  2. Thanks for those tips, Bill. I appreciate them.

I often veer from tradition(sometimes wildly) and I'm definitely guilty of anthromorphizing.

5-7-5 is a very basic haiku form, but it works for me as a framework of sorts.

I have a lot of non-traditional stuff written (which I will continue to post), but I will strive to be more 'in the moment' with my future haiku.
